Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

The Kanto Lampo Waterfall is a wide waterfall rippling over its wall making it unusual among the typically tall and narrow drops that characterized most of Bali’s waterfalls.

It’s one of the more straightforward waterfalls to visit as we only had to walk roughly 800m round-trip though it was an upside down profile meaning we had to descend to the falls and sweat our way back up to the car park.

Moreover, its close proximity to the city of Ubud also meant that it is perpetually popular given how many tourists tend to stay let alone visit the City of Temples.

As for experiencing this waterfall (which I’m guessing is 10-15m tall and nearly 30m wide), after getting past a menacing-looking statue by some warungs at the car park, we descended steps cutting down to a road.

That road was flanked by more warungs, but it ultimately terminated at a ticket booth, where we paid Rp 20k per person.

Beyond the ticket booth, the path then descended a series of steps towards a split where the path on the left went to a toilet area as well as an alternate view of the Kanto Lampo Waterfall.

The path on the right continued towards the side of the Kanto Lampo Waterfall, but in order to get in front of the falls for a better view, I had to wade in the murky knee-deep creek.

In addition to trying to stay upright while scrambling towards the other side of the creek, I did encounter an unexpected hazard in the form of some black insect (a centipede?) that made a painful bite or stung my finger while I grabbed a rock.

Aside from that bit of drama, there really wasn’t much more to this waterfall, and we spent less than 90 minutes away from the car (though more than half that time was spent waiting our turn to take people shots at the falls itself).

The Kanto Lampo Waterfall resides near the village of Beng in the Gianyar Regency.

Since we were driven to the car park for the Kanto Lampo Waterfall, I won’t bother with giving driving directions, but you can look at the embedded map above for your trip planning needs.

Moreover, I can say that it took around 30 minutes for our driver to drive from the Tukad Cepung Waterfall to the Kanto Lampo Waterfall’s car park.

Coming from Ubud, it would take about 30 minutes to do the 11km drive east to the Kanto Lampo Waterfall car park.

For geographical context, Beng is about 11km (under 30 minutes drive) south of Ubud, about 39km (around 1 hour drive) northeast of Kuta, about 37km (over 1 hour drive) east of Canggu, 37km (over 1 hour drive) east of Seminyak, and 79km (over 2 hours drive) south of Lovina.

Note that you’ll want to take the drive times with a grain of salt mostly because the traffic situation (especially in Southern Bali) is pretty bad and unpredictable.
