About Kalamina Falls
Kalamina Falls was a tiny seasonal waterfall sitting at the head of the Kalamina Gorge in Karijini National Park.
I recalled that the falls itself tok us only a brief 5-minute walk from the car park at the top of the gorge to the depths of the gorge where we were able to get the photo you see at the top of this page.
We only visited this waterfall then went back up to the car park.
I tended to think of this place as more of a swimming hole, but we were running short on time and didn’t linger here for long.
If we had more time on our hands, I wanted to partake in a much longer hike (about 3km in each direction or 3 hours return) within the depths of the Kalamina Gorge.
That hike ultimately would have led us to an attractive Rock Arch and pool.
Perhaps that was the greater attraction of this particular gorge.
One of these days, I hope to come back here and actually do this hike knowing that we should spend at least 2 nights in Paraburdoo or Tom Price so we could have at least an entire day in Karijini National Park.
Authorities
Kalamina Falls resides in Karijini National Park near Tom Price in Western Australia. It is administered jointly by the Western Australia Government with the Banjima, Innawongka, and Eastern Guruma People. For information or inquiries about the area as well as current conditions, visit their website.
The turnoff to the Kalamina Gorge is roughly near the half-way point along the unsealed part of Banjima Drive between the Karijini National Park Visitor Centre and the Joffre Falls Lookout. I believe the turnoff is signposted for Kalamina Gorge, and you take this spur road to its end. And from the car park here, you descend the path going into the gorge where the small cascades can be found.
To provide you some context of the remoteness of Karijini National Park, it’s about 101km (over 90 minutes drive) east of Tom Price, 337km (4 hours drive) south of Port Hedland, and 702km (8.5 hours drive) east of Coral Bay.
