About Bridal Veil Falls
I felt compelled to write this Bridal Veil Falls page (as opposed to integrating it with our Devils Punchbowl Falls page) largely because there was a bit of confusion concerning this waterfall.
You see, when we were planning our visit to Arthur’s Pass (said to be the highest Southern Alps crossing at around 900m), we had read that the Bridal Veil Track didn’t actually yield a view of this waterfall due to obstructions.
Given the limited amount of time we had in the area, we couldn’t take the chance of doing a track where we might not see what we were looking for, so we didn’t do that track (thus we couldn’t substantiate those claims).
That said, I happened to see this waterfall accidentally when I was trying to improve my view of Devils Punchbowl Falls via the Scotts Track.
That was when I went high enough above the trees that otherwise would have blocked my view and I ended up seeing the impressive 60m waterfall across the valley as you see in the photo above.
It only took me around 15-20 minutes of walking from the relatively hidden Scotts Track trailhead before I started noticing the waterfall dwarfing the power pylons below.
Aside from seeing this waterfall from across the valley, there wasn’t much more I could do with this waterfall so I didn’t spend any more time seeing if there were other ways to experience the falls.
Julie and I also noticed partial views of what we thought to be this waterfall while driving the SH73 just north of Arthur’s Pass Village, but such views were not reliable.
There weren’t any pullouts to facilitate this view anyways, but that’s why I contend that the Scott’s Track view would be the way to go to see this falls.
That said, it really was more of a complementary waterfall than prime waterfall attraction, in my mind.

For further context, Arthurs Pass Village was about 75 minutes drive (95km) southeast of Greymouth or 2 hours drive (149km) northwest of Christchurch.
