Alder Creek Falls

Alder Creek Falls probably gets my vote as the truly “secret” or “hidden” waterfall of Yosemite dropping 100-150ft and requiring an 8-mile hike to reach.

“Fremont River Falls”

‘Fremont River Falls’ is an informal name that I’ve given to this accidental man-made waterfall on the Fremont River in Capitol Reef National Park.

Staircase Falls

Staircase Falls is one of two named temporary waterfalls in Yosemite Valley (the other being Horsetail Falls) based on the way its creek steps down ledges.

Royal Arch Cascade

The Royal Arch Cascade is an easy-to-miss waterfall next to the Royal Arches, the Washington Column, and North Dome on the east end of Yosemite Valley.

Silver Strand Falls

Silver Strand Falls is a reported 574ft waterfall that could be Yosemite’s most overlooked waterfall due to its positioning at the Tunnel View Lookout.

Chilnualna Falls

Chilnualna Falls is a series of at least 5 waterfalls over an 8.5-mile hike culminating in a 180ft stepping cascade in the quiet south side of Yosemite.

Pine Creek Falls

Pine Creek Falls is a well-hidden 25-30ft waterfall downstream from its namesake technical slot canyon, but we had to earn our visit with a dicey scramble.

Archangel Cascades

The Archangel Cascades are a series of cascades on the Left Fork North Creek just downstream from the Subway (a tube-shaped slot canyon) in Zion National Park.

Limekiln Falls

Limekiln Falls is a 75-100ft limestone waterfall hike near the rugged Big Sur coast in Limekiln State Park featuring a forest, historic kilns, and a beach.

Canyon Falls

Canyon Falls is a 30ft waterfall on McWay Creek often overshadowed by the famous McWay Falls in Julia Pfeiffer Burns SP, but the oversight is its appeal.

Cooper Canyon Falls

Cooper Canyon Falls is a 40-50ft waterfall that’s close to the LA Basin as the crow flies but not such a close drive and hike deep in the Angeles Forest.

Switzer Falls

Switzer Falls is a series of 3 waterfalls with an elusive main 50-70ft drop and an accessible 30-40ft lower tier accessed by a hike of at least 3.6 miles.

Trail Canyon Falls

Trail Canyon Falls is a 30-40ft Y-shaped waterfall requiring a 4- or 4.8-mile round-trip hike and scramble in Big Tujunga Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Millard Falls

Millard Falls was a 60ft waterfall in Millard Canyon that really felt like one of the more family-friendly trails given its modest 1.2-mile round-trip hike.

Rose Valley Falls

Rose Valley Falls was an easy-to-visit waterfall in the rugged expanse of the Sespe Wilderness north of Ojai featuring a pair of drops over 80ft and a cave.

Havasu Falls

Havasu Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen as it drops 90ft off reddish travertine cliffs into colorful turquoise pools below.

Mooney Falls

Mooney Falls is the tallest of the Havasupai Reservation waterfalls plunging some 190ft in a tall singular column amongst ominous-looking travertine cliffs.

Navajo Falls

Navajo Falls is the first major waterfall that we encountered in Havasu Creek downstream from Supai Village. It once dropped 75ft through thick brush.

Papenoo Valley Waterfalls

The Papenoo Valley Waterfalls page is where I’m placing the handful of waterfalls we managed to see while on a 4×4 tour through the heart of Tahiti Nui.

Vaimahutu Falls (Faarumai Waterfall)

Vaimahutu Falls is one of three Faarumai Waterfalls in the northeast part of Tahiti Nui, which was one of the easiest ones to visit in French Polynesia.
