About Savulevu Yavonu Waterfall
The Savulevu Yavonu Waterfall is a 20m waterfall that falls directly into the seas of the Ravilevu Coast in the rugged part of Eastern Taveuni.
We were only able to access it by motorized boat.
The kind folks at Lavena would only take us there if the seas were calm enough (as the waters on this side of the island were mostly unprotected by reefs or inlets).

Fortunately for us, the seas were calm enough to proceed.
Apparently this waterfall used to be used for drinking water by early sailors.
Today, a few landslides caused the falls to no longer flow directly into the ocean, but it’s still pretty nonetheless.
If you do shell out some money to see the falls, there’s an added benefit of reducing the amount of hiking on the Lavena Coastal Walk.
That is, you don’t have to hike out and back from Lavena Village.
Reducing the Lavena Coastal Walk Exertion
Instead, you can take the boat to see this waterfall, then have them drop you off where Wainibau Creek meets the ocean.

You can pick up the trail from there and ultimately take it to hike back along the Lavena Coastal Walk to Lavena Village.
We took advantage of this option after it was suggested by one of the Lavena locals.
The result was that we ended up hiking around 6km total instead of at least 10km (see the Wainibau Falls page for more details)!
We also spotted countless other waterfalls as the boat went a little beyond the Savulevu Yavonu Waterfall and towards the rugged Ravilevu Coast.
Come to think of it, it probably shouldn’t be so surprising that there were so many waterfalls here given the high rainfall of Taveuni and the rugged topography.
In fact, we had a hard time identifying the waterfalls as there were too many.

So we stopped identifying them and merely enjoyed seeing and photographing them!
